Growling at the Baker Hotel

As many of you know, the Baker Hotel is closed to the public….on the inside. There’s no law stopping me from walking around the building snapping pictures, or sitting on the sidewalk attempting to have a ghostly experience. Last night, that’s just what Erica and I did. We had just come from the post office, and I had a book of stamps in my back jeans pocket. I parked on the street, and we got out. The wind was whipping around the building like a bat of out hell, though it wasn’t cold. We walked up the south side to the front, and took pictures of the front stairs and veranda. We spent about ten minutes, and walked back south towards the car, planning to head around to the other side of the building. Well, we got back to where the car was, and there, on the sidewalk was my book of stamps. It was flung open, but laying still on the concrete. I picked it up in amazement. The wind gave a good gust, and I said “Thanks for keeping my stamps for me!” I heard a voice in return say, “In my time $7.00 was a lot of money.” A book of stamps costs $7.40 now. I don’t know if the stamps fell out of my pocket as I got out of the car, or if I had my pocket picked, but it was enough to convince me the Baker is still as active as it ever was!
As we rounded the corner on the back of the building, past the rock wall near the service entry to the basement, Erica’s camera wouldn’t function properly. She said, “Allright, damnit, please let me take your picture!” She got a growl in response; we headed back to the west side of the building at that point.
